I would attend more tournaments if they had spouses programs. My wife doesn’t play competitive bridge and resents me attending too many tournaments. She doesn’t like to drive in unfamiliar cities. With regularly scheduled mixers and outings (muesums, shopping, sight seeing, dinners/lunches) she would attend a couple. And, of course, I would feel much less guilty going to a few extra when she didn’t want to go. 🙂
I strongly suspect that lots of others are in the same situation as me. So, I think Spouses Programs would result in significant increases in tournament attendance and more tourist dollars for the host cities.
The choice of two time slots in the Denver sectionals works well for me: 1:00 p. m., and 7:00 p. m. on Friday, and 10:00 a. m. and 3:00 p. m. on Saturday My wife appreciates me being home in the evening for dinner, and I get plenty of rest before the Swiss Team event on Sunday……….. A glass of wine clouds my mind for several hours.
